Baseball Recap: Mount Sinai Has No Trouble Against Islip

After only one run in their last matchup, Mount Sinai made sure to put some runs up on the board against Islip on Tuesday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Buccaneers. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 5-4 win the Buccaneers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Jake Zabbara tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.

At the plate, Benny Franquiz was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was John Leonard, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Mount Sinai kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.

Mount Sinai's victory bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Islip, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.

Mount Sinai will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Buccaneers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
