Baseball Recap: Central City/Centura Kernels vs. Elkhorn Antlers

If Central City/Centura was riding high off their 15-2 takedown of Twin River last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Central City/Centura Kernels fell just short of the Elkhorn Antlers by a score of 7-6 on Monday. Central City/Centura was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Elkhorn apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Barrett Fries was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Fries has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Fries was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Fries wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mason Gorecki, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Like Central City/Centura, Elkhorn also got a great game from a two-way player: Gil Schroeder. He tossed an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Schroeder was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Central City/Centura's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-7. As for Elkhorn, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-12 record this season.
