Basketball Game Preview: Utopia Buffaloes vs. Leakey Eagles

Utopia is 2-8 against Leakey since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Utopia Buffaloes will look to defend their home court against the Leakey Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Last Tuesday, Utopia was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 43-42 to Rocksprings. The Buffaloes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Utopia might have lost, but man, Kinsley Cox was a machine: she dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 54.8% of Utopia's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Emily Wiekamp, who scored four points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Leakey was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 19-14 to D'Hanis. The contest marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Leakey dropped their record down to 7-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Utopia, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12-1.

Utopia was taken down by Leakey 47-12 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Utopia was down 31-6.
