Football Game Preview: Manville Mustangs vs. J.P. Stevens Hawks

The Manville Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the J.P. Stevens Hawks at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Manville has five straight victories, J.P. Stevens has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Manville is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 49-12 win over South Hunterdon. Considering the Mustangs have won four contests by more than 30 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, J.P. Stevens fell victim to Bernards and their airtight defense on Friday. They were beaten by the Mountaineers 39-0. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 335th, while the Mountaineers are ranked 66th).

J.P. Stevens' loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Manville, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

Everything went Manville's way against J.P. Stevens when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Manville made off with a 41-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
