Basketball Recap: Norwich Free Academy Extends Home Winning Streak to Eight

There's no place like home for Norwich Free Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They escaped with a win on Saturday against the Fitch Falcons by the margin of a single free throw, 44-43. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 39-34 back in January.

It was another big night for Emily Orcutt, who dropped a double-double with 26 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. Sophie Miner was another key player, putting up four points and five boards.

Norwich Free Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Despite the defeat, Fitch saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Synaa Waters posted 17 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Fitch is 3-1 when Waters posts five or more steals, but 5-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Katherine Wenger, who scored ten points and three steals.

Norwich Free Academy pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Fitch, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

Norwich Free Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 41-37 win against New London on the 3rd. As for Fitch, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 47-29 victory against East Lyme on the 3rd.
