Football Recap: Zade Taylor's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gilmer over Lindale

Gilmer was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 35-23 to the Lindale Eagles. The Buckeyes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Several Buckeyes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zade Taylor, who threw for 309 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 57 yards. Trace Haynes was Taylor's top target, picking up 124 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Gilmer's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Lindale, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gilmer will face off against Brenham at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cubs' defense has only allowed 14 points per game this season, so the Buckeyes' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Lindale, they will square off against Chapel Hill at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will be up against the Bulldogs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26.5 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
