Football Recap: Hillgrove Starts Season with Win at Home + How To Watch

Hillgrove gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They claimed a resounding 46-7 win over the Mountain View Bears. The Hawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bears, too.

Hillgrove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ian Wilcox led the charge by rushing for 50 yards and two touchdowns. That's the most rushing yards Wilcox has posted since back in September of 2024. Zion Williams also helped with two scores in total.

Hillgrove didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Mountain View to a completion percentage of just 45.8%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from six players: Corbin Forbes, Jaidan James, Jameson McCollough, Chris Carbin, Jayden Wright, and Christian Wells, who each logged one passes deflected. Hillgrove wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 91.7%.

Hillgrove didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as James, Forbes, and McCollough picked up one apiece. Forbes got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Hillgrove will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against McIntosh at 7:30 p.m. on the 29th. As for Mountain View, they will square off against Lanier at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
