Also, Tanner Wozniak commits to play basketball at Florida International.

With its ongoing history of winning, it's a larger story when the Brandon wrestling squad doesn't win a state championship.

That hasn't happened since 2000.

Last week, the Eagles wrapped up their 11th straight state wrestling crown. It was the program's 22nd overall state championship.

Seven Eagles won individual Class 3A state championships: Rossi Bruno (130 pounds), Clark Glass (152), James Flint (112), Kevin Norstrem (125), Tyler Liberatore (135), Wally Figaro (160), and Kyle Koziel (171).

In Class 2A, Springstead (Spring Hill) won its first state title in program history. Richie Bliss (103), Virgil Toms (130), Nick Soto (135), Cody Ross (140) and Shawn Landgraff (152) all won individual crowns for Springstead.

And in Class A, despite not repeating, Gulf (New Port Richey) still crowned two individual state champions. Ladarious Jackson went undefeated this season en route to claiming the 171-pound crown. And 130-pound Anthony Ayers won his second straight state title for Gulf.

TANNER WOZNIAK COMMITS TO FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL BASKETBALL
Keswick Christian (St. Petersburg) senior basketball player Tanner Wozniak, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, has committed to Florida International. Wozniak led the Bay area with a 32 points per game average.

"FIU was an up and coming program with Isaiah Thomas and his staff at the helm," Wozniak said in a school release. "As a Hall of Fame NBA point guard, Isaiah Thomas has committed to me to help me take my game to the next level."

NO BOYS SOCCER GOLD FOR THE BAY AREA
Any hopes for a Bay area boys state soccer championship ended with a Durant (Plant City) shutout loss in the Class 5A championship game. Played on the University of Tampa's campus, Durant was handily beaten by St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) 4-0.

Durant had advanced to the finals with a 3-2 win against Gaither (Tampa).

Meanwhile, in Class 6A, Countryside (Clearwater) fell 2-1 to Cypress Bay (Weston) in the semifinals.
