Basketball Preview: Shawnee Mission West Vikings vs. Olathe North Eagles
The Shawnee Mission West Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Olathe North Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
Last Friday, Shawnee Mission West was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 47-42 to the Lions. Shawnee Mission West has struggled against the Lions recently, as their game on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Olathe North came up short against the Lancers on Friday and fell 39-29.
Allie Workman put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored ten points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Asia Lee, who scored 11 points.
Olathe North struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Shawnee Mission West dropped their record down to 2-8-1 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. Olathe North's record is now 5-9.
Shawnee Mission West strolled past the Eagles in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a score of 63-49. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Olathe North's Tyriana Stanford, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds.
