Softball Recap: Harlingen's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Harlingen won against Veterans Memorial last Friday with 18 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Cardinals beat the Hanna Golden Eagles by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 18-3. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by seven runs or more this season.

Vivian Garcia looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Zuelly Cruz, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Jozalin Bravo was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

Harlingen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory (which was Harlingen's fifth in a row) raised their record to 16-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Hanna, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 14 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15-1 record this season.

Coincidentally, Harlingen and Hanna will both be playing Los Fresnos the next time they take the field. The Cardinals will host the Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Golden Eagles will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
