Recap: Pueblo South Colts vs. Pueblo East Eagles
The Pueblo South Colts won the last time they faced the Pueblo East Eagles, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Pueblo South walked away with a 66-54 victory over Pueblo East. Given Pueblo South's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Pueblo East is ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Maurice Austin, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Pueblo South's points. Andres Cura was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with four steals.
Despite the loss, Pueblo East still got an impressive performance from Izaiah Trujillo, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Trujillo continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Garcia, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Pueblo South's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Pueblo East, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pueblo South will take on Pueblo Centennial at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Pueblo East, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Pueblo West at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th.
