Basketball Recap: Luke Overbay's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Tumwater over WF West

If Tumwater was riding high fresh off their 49-24 takedown of Shelton last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tumwater Thunderbirds fell 54-44 to the WF West Bearcats on Friday. The Thunderbirds were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bearcats earlier this season, when they won 37-31.

Tumwater's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Overbay, who went 5 of 9 en route to 11 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Sahara Anthony III was another key player, putting up ten points.

With the defeat, Tumwater broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-4. As for WF West, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Tumwater Thunderbirds take on the Prairie Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Prairie knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 contests -- so hopefully Tumwater likes a good challenge. As for WF West, they will challenge Black Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Black Hills will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something WF West surely won't give up without a fight.
