Softball Recap: Tri-Township Tigers vs. Westville Blackhawks
Tri-Township extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They lost 13-0 to the Westville Blackhawks. If the Tigers were looking for revenge after losing 11-0 to the Blackhawks when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Westville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.
For Westville's part, Kierstin Vargas was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Vargas has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kiersten Vaughan was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Maddison Cole also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Looking ahead, Tri-Township will square off against North White at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Westville, they will venture away from home to challenge Wheeler at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Blackhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearcats have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
