Basketball Game Preview: Pine Hill Warriors vs. Newcomb Skyhawks

Having just played yesterday, the Pine Hill Warriors will jump right back in to play the Newcomb Skyhawks at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Pine Hill saw some tournament action on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 42-27 victory over Rehoboth Christian. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.

Meanwhile, Newcomb entered their tilt with Hozho Academy on Friday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They took down the Wolves 50-31. Given the Skyhawks' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Wolves are ranked 128th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Newcomb pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Pine Hill, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Pine Hill couldn't quite finish off Newcomb when the teams last played back in December of 2022 and fell 36-34. Can Pine Hill avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
