Softball Recap: Portage Comes Up Short

Portage dropped their record down to 5-14 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Cambria Heights Highlanders, falling 16-1. The Mustangs were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matchups prior), but the Highlanders' pitchers proved too tough.

Portage saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mikaila McCoy, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Cambria Heights, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games.

On Cambria Heights' side, Rylee Lane looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, Margaret Elias was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Hallie Hayes, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

While Portage had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
