Baseball Recap: Northwestern Comes Up Short

After flying high against DuVal on Friday, Northwestern came back down to earth. The Wildcats came up short against the Gwynn Park Yellowjackets on Monday, falling 17-3. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 24-4 to the Yellowjackets when the teams met back in May of 2021, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Northwestern saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jose Galeano Carino, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Galeano Carino is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

Northwestern has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Gwynn Park, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.

Coming up, Northwestern will head out on the road to square off against Bladensburg at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.1 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Gwynn Park, they will take on Crossland on Wednesday.
