Softball Game Preview: Dixie Heights Colonels vs. Walton-Verona Bearcats

The Dixie Heights Colonels will head out to face off against the Walton-Verona Bearcats at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Dixie Heights has given up an average of 12.3 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Dixie Heights lost 13-1 to Cooper on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Colonels in their meetings with the Jaguars: they've now lost five in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Walton-Verona). They blew past Holmes 17-0 on Tuesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bearcats as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Sophie Lepping was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Demi Lavon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Walton-Verona hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matchups.

Walton-Verona's record now sits at 4-13. As for Dixie Heights, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.

Dixie Heights took their win against Walton-Verona in their previous matchup back in March of 2017 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Colonels repeat their success, or do the Bearcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
