The Boone Grove Wolves will head out to square off against the Portage Indians at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Boone Grove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Boone Grove lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Tri-Township, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's match. The Wolves were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Tigers on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wolves needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Davian Carrera made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Andrew Batesole and Tristan Wilson did most of the damage at the plate: Batesole got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs, while Wilson went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Wilson has become a key player for Boone Grove: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Maxwell Truby was another key player, earning two runs and three stolen bases.
Boone Grove hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tri-Township struck out 11 times.
Lowell hit Portage with a four-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The two teams finished up on equal footing with a 4-4 draw. The victory was some much needed relief for the Indians as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Boone Grove's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. Portage's draw gives them a new season record of 9-8-2.
Both Boone Grove and Portage just can't seem to miss. The Wolves have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Portage struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Boone Grove was able to grind out a solid win over Portage in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 6-3. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
