Preview: Lamar Thunder vs. St. Mary's Pirates

The Lamar Thunder will be playing in front of their home fans against the St. Mary's Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Lamar's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while St. Mary's has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.

Lamar posted their biggest win yet this season on Thursday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 55-18 victory over Custer County. With Lamar ahead 33-9 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Lamar found their leader in underclassman Gabrian Jacobs, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jacobs has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Austin Thacker, who scored four points along with five rebounds and two steals.

Meanwhile, St. Mary's came up short against Salida on Tuesday and fell 63-52. While losing is never fun, St. Mary's can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 231st, while Salida is ranked 47th).

Lamar has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for St. Mary's, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.

Lamar was able to grind out a solid win over St. Mary's in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, winning 72-63. Will Lamar repeat their success, or does St. Mary's have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
