It's award season. The sport is volleyball. And the most recognized name very well could be
Mikaela Foecke. Pick an all-star or all-American list and Foecke is on it.
And without exception, the trend continues as the
Holy Trinity Catholic (Fort Madison, Iowa) player is 2014 MaxPreps Small Schools National Player of the Year.
Foecke (pronounced Feek-ee) was named to MaxPreps' overall All-American Team last week.

The 6-foot-3 middle blocker slammed 812 kills and amassed 270 digs, 170 service aces and 95 blocks this past season, leading the Crusaders to a 48-4 record and the school's first state title in any sport. She concluded her prep career with a state-record 2,813 kills, which will put her No. 5 in the National Federation of State High School Associations all-time career list.
"Mikaela is a dynamic player who has so much positive energy," said coach Melissa Freesmeier. "Mikaela is a true team player who strives to always be the best. Mikaela is a team leader in every aspect of the game emotionally, spiritually and physically. Mikaela goes beyond our expectations."
Named the Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year, Foecke is a perennial MaxPreps All-American and was MaxPreps' 2013 National Junior Player of the Year. She has also been selected as an Under Armour First Team All-America honoree as well as an American Family Insurance All-American.
Foecke was also the Iowa Girls Coaches Association co-Player of the Year, captain of the Class 1A All-State Tournament Team and was selected for the Iowa Girls Coaches Association and the Des Moines Register Elite All-State teams.
Foecke started for the U.S. Women's Junior National Team that won a gold medal at the U-20 NORCECA Continental Championships this past July.
A Future Nebraska Cornhusker, Foecke has maintained a 4.10 GPA in the classroom. With her in the lineup, Holy Trinity won 179 matches and lost 16.
When asked how she will replace Foecke, Freesmeier said, "We don't. Mikaela is an exceptional athlete and an even better person. Mikaela is an athlete younger kids look up to and someone I am proud to have coached."
Coach of the Year - Amy Reed, Gate City (Va.)Reed led the Blue Devils to their sixth 2A state title and second in a row. By winning all 30 of their matches this season, they have stretched their winning streak to 56.

Hayley Wolfe, Gate City lost only eight sets while winning 85. Senior
Kyra Jessee was also honored as an all-state performer.
Team of Year - Elida (N.M.)The 26-0 Tigers won their fifth-straight state title and seventh in school history when they won New Mexico's 1A title.
Coached by Darrell Chenault, Elida has won 115 of its last 126 matches and 57 of its last 58. In 2014, they outscored their opponents 78-11.
The Tigers dominated the New Mexico 1A All-State Team as four players –

Kynzi Creighton,
Kenzee Criswell and
Lauren Stone were named to the first team and
Taylor Epps was named to the second team.
2014 MaxPreps Small Schools Volleyball All-American Team
OH - Alyssa Schultejans, Silver Lake (Kan.), 6-2 SRSchultejans finished her career as the state's all-time kills leader with 1,985. She had 732 kills this year as Silver Lake won its second-straight Class 3A state title and was named to the Under Armour High School All-America second team. She will attend Kansas State.
OH - Melanie McHenry, Speedway (Ind.), 6-2 JR

One of the most prolific hitters east of the Rockies, McHenry led Speedway to a 26-9 record when she killed 798 (7.1) of her 1,485 attempts. She also recorded 79 aces, 78 blocks, 415 digs (3.6) and only 13 errors in 496 serve receptions. She has committed to Louisville. And she played kicker for the football team.
OH - Katie Kampen, Mt. Carmel (New Orleans), 5-11 SRShe
was her state's Gatorade POY winner twice, including this year when she
led the Cubs to a 47-2 record and the D-1 state championship. Kampen
recorded 572 kills, 380 digs, 80 blocks and 55 service aces. The state's
2014 Miss Volleyball, Kampen is a 2014 second team all-America
selection by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. She concluded
her prep volleyball career with 1,983 kills and 1,501 digs. She has
signed with LSU.
OH - Carley Remmers, Freeman (Adams, Neb.), 6-1 SRAn all-state player, Remmers propelled the Falcons to an undefeated Class C-2 state championship season. Remmers unloaded 449 kills (.456 pct.), 95 blocks and 301 digs. She finished her career with a school-record 1,514 kills, 231 blocks, 218 ace serves and 1,182 digs. Remmers, who was named to the state Super Elite team, will attend Ohio.
MB - Brittany Corder, Our Lady Academy (Bay St. Louis, Miss.), 5-10 SRCorder led the Crescents to a 41-2 record and the Class I state title this past season. Corder recorded 441 kills, 47 service aces and 40 blocks to go with a hitting percentage of .511. Last season, she was selected to the All-State Tournament team, the All-Region team and the Sun Herald All-Coast team.
MB - Kelly Vahos, Haldane (Cold Spring, N.Y.), 6-2 SRHeaded to James Madison, Vahos had 499 kills (6.1), 67 aces (91 percent serving) and 66 blocks in leading her team to a 22-4 record and fourth-straight state tournament trip.
MH - Mariah Whalen, Newman (Wausau, Wis.), 6-1 SOWhalen finished with 831 kills and more than 1,500 attacks for Newman this fall, helping the Cardinals repeat as D-4 state champions. Along the way she had 53 blocks, 102 aces, 280 digs and earned all-state tournament honors and first team all-state honors. Whalen also is the Gannett Central Wisconsin Media's volleyball POY.
MB - Tiani Reeves, Gothenburg (Neb.), 6-1 SR

Reeves, the only repeat first-team Super-Stater in 2014, battled illness and injury to lead the Swedes team to 20 wins. Reeves still managed to pound 405 kills while also putting down 64 blocks. Reeves, the defending Class B girls long jump and triple jump state champion, will attend Nebraska.
MB - Nicole Fleitman, Lindsay (Texas), 6-2 SRIn addition to surpassing her junior year total for kills with 1,025, Fleitman totaled a .433 hitting percentage. She also collected 73 blocks to go with 406 digs on the season, in addition to 122 aces.
S - Rachel Koop, Dike-New Hartford (Dike, Iowa), 5-9 SRKoop has helped DNH to four consecutive state championships. She is a four-time first team all-state honoree, chosen as captain of this year's squad. She averaged 9.1 assists and had 45 blocks and 132 digs. Koop has signed with Northern Iowa University.
S - Shannon Mikesky, Schulenburg (Texas), 6-0 SRIn leading the Shorthorns to a 43-8 season and the Texas 2A title, Mikesky dished out 1,335 assists (8.7), recorded 531 digs (3.5), blocked 58 balls, served 95.2 with 153 aces and had 340 kills. She will attend Alabama.
S - Emma Cary, Providence Christian (Dothan, Ala.), 5-7 SRCary recorded 1,323 assists, 144 kills, 323 digs and a team-high 151 aces as the Eagles won a school-record 58 wins, highlighted by a school-record 56 straight wins. She also helped PCS earn state runner-up honors. For her career, she helped PCS to 160 wins and to the state finals three times, earning one state title. She is the second member of her family to win Dothan Eagle Player of the Year honors, as her sister Sara won in 2009.
L - Amber MacDonald, Blessed Trinity (Roswell, Ga.), 5-4 SRThe Titans won two state championships during MacDonald's tenure, including in 2014, and advanced to the state tournament finals all four years. She finished her career with 2,355 digs, including 787 as a senior. MacDonald, who is second all-time in Georgia state history in career digs, has committed to Wisconsin.
ALL-AROUND - Ashley Laborde, St. John Lutheran (Ocala, Fla.), 5-9 SRLaborde — who signed with the University of North Florida — finished her final season at St. John Lutheran with 444 kills, 456 digs, 43 aces and 48 blocks while hitting at a .574 clip. In leading her team to a 26-1 record and a state title, LaBorde was named Florida's 2A Player of the Year. Her father, Jason, was named Coach of the Year.
A-A - Rachel Holthaus, Winona (Mo.), 6-0 SRHolthaus was among the national leaders in kills per set at 7.6 and averaged 3.7 digs per set. She is the main reason Winona competes with any team any night of the week and was 28-5-5 with the small school state title to its credit. She also served at a 99.7 percent clip. Holthaus will attend Eastern Illinois University.
A-A - Jenn Wineholt, Parker (San Diego), 6-0 JRKnown for her leadership, Wineholt quarterbacked the Lancers to their third-straight state title and ninth overall. She showed her versatility in the state title win with 28 assists and seven blocks. And in the semifinal match, she had 10 kills, 14 digs, six blocks and 30 assists. She has committed to Virginia. She was first team All-CIF San Diego Section as well as first team All-San Diego area.

MB - Emily Curtin, Lake Arrowhead Christian (Twin Peaks, Calif.), 5-10 SRNamed the CIF-SS 5A POY, Curtin finished the season with 499 kills, 284 digs, 65 aces and 60 blocks. She was dominant during the team's playoff matches, racking up 135 kills for an average of 7.5 kills per set.
MB - Taylor Reiss, Minneota (Minn.), 5-10 SRReiss was a three-time conference MVP and three-time all-state and state all-tournament pick. She was a finalist for the Minnesota Baden Volleyball award. As a senior, she had 581 kills and 85 solo blocks, hit .517 and averaged 4.82 digs per set. She was named an honorable mention Under Armour All-American. Reiss finished her four-year career with 2,119 career kills and 339 solo blocks. She will attend South Dakota State.
MB - Blake Mohler, Ocean Springs (Miss.), 6-2 SRMississippi's Gatorade winner, Mohler recorded 482 kills, 120 blocks and 91 service aces this past season, leading the Greyhounds (25-8) to the 3A quarterfinals. A 2014-15 Under Armour Second Team All-America selection, Mohler is a three-time member of the Sun Herald All-Coast team. She has signed with Purdue.
OH - Taryn Kloth, O'Gorman (Sioux Falls, S.D.), 6-4 SRKloth, who was named South Dakota's Gatorade winner, led the Knights to a 33-5 record and a second-straight AA state title. Kloth tallied 558 kills, 314 digs, 90 blocks and 41 service aces while posting a .418 hitting percentage and a .500 kill percentage. She is a three-time Class AA first team all-state honoree. She will attend Creighton.
OH - Harley Sebastian, Lovett (Atlanta), 6-4 SRSebastian had 244 digs (3.0), 64 aces (92.4 percent), 30 blocks and 345 kills (4.2) in leading Lovett (19-16) to the 2A state title game. The three-time all-state player is a 2014 Under Armour All-American honorable mention member. She has signed with Virginia.
OH - Hannah Bailey, Cameron (Wis.), 6-2 SRBailey was an Under Armour Second-Team All-American and finished her senior season with 329 kills (4.6) at a .600 hitting percentage for 29-5 Cameron. She was a three-time all-state performer.
OH - Erica Treiber, Unionville-Sebewaing (Sebewaing, Mich.), 6-1 SRTreiber was a finalist for Michigan Miss Volleyball and led her team to the state semifinals and a 43-win season with five kills per set (.571 percent), 3.6 digs, 1.8 blocks (258). She was also named two-time Class C all-state; three-time All-GTC West; Bay City Times Player of the Year in 2013. Also an all-state softball player, she will play volleyball at Tennessee.
OH - Jamila Johnson, St. Joseph's Catholic (Greenville, S.C.), 5-8 SRJohnson, who led the Knights to a 41-3 record and the Class A state title, is a two-time Class A POY. Johnson slammed 430 kills while recording a .542 kill percentage and .433 hitting percentage. She also tallied 204 digs, 183 service receptions, 41 service aces and 19 blocks. She was South Carolina's Gatorade winner.
OH - Shealene Little, Culver (Ore.), 6-1 SRLittle once again put up big numbers in leading the Bulldogs (43 wins) to the state semifinals. She hit 66 percent with 701 kills (6.0), served 95.5 percent with 91 aces, blocked a team-high 27 shots and had 340 digs (2.0) to go along with 457 service receptions. Little has been named to the 2A all-tournament team four times (twice as a unanimous pick), been selected all-state four times and was the 2A Player of the Year in 2012. She will attend Tennessee Tech.
OH - Allison Rohn, Calumet Christian (Griffith, Ind.), 5-9 SRRohn was a big reason why Calumet Christian won five National Association of Christian Athletes national titles in five years. As a senior, she recorded 790 kills, 88 aces, 111 blocks (72 solo), 262 digs as the Patriots lost just once in 54 matches. She has signed with Palm Beach Atlantic.

OH – Briana Weber, Dike-New Hartford (Dike, Iowa), 5-10 SRWeber was a four-time first team 2A selection and a three-time All-Iowa honoree. She played on four state championship teams that lost just six matches during those years. Weber, who will attend Northern Iowa, was third in 2A with 507 kills to go along with serving aces (46), digs (285) and blocks (63) as a senior.
OH - Jen Dawson, Morgan (Clinton, Conn.), 6-0 SRDawson
led Morgan to state semifinals by averaging 4.9 kills (60 pct.), 96.5
pct. serving, 1.8 digs and only 18 service errors. She was chosen
all-state for the third time. During her four seasons at Morgan, the
Huskies lost just five matches while winning 91.
S - Lindsey Smith, Dakota Valley (North Sioux City, S.D.), 5-8 SRSmith posted 1,018 assists (11.3), 190 digs and 83 aces on the season. She also recorded 98 kills with a .435 hitting percentage, as well as 54 blocks as DVHS finished third at state with a 29-5 record.
S - Abby O'Donnell, Marian Catholic (Tamaqua, Pa.), 5-7 SRShe led Marian to the state final match and a 26-2 record plus a 66-8 mark over the last three seasons. A perennial all-stater, O'Donnell was selected after she finished her Marian career with 3,486 assists.
A-A - Ashley Rozell, Warner (S.D.), 5-11 SRRozell led Warner to its third-straight state title by recording 5.6 assists (531) in 94 sets and added 94 aces in 506 serves, 265 digs (2.8) and 462 kills (4.9). She also blocked 30 shots. She was first team all-state for the fourth-straight year. During her four years at Warner, the Monarchs lost just four matches while winning 130.
L - Riley Sents, Grundy Center (Iowa), 5-5 SR Sents led Grundy Center to a 29-9 record and was named first team Iowa Elite when she pulled in 602 digs in her senior season and was aced just eight times on 406 reception chances. In all, she boasted a .972 service reception percentage in four years of high school and pulled in more than 2,000 career digs. She has signed with Missouri.

OH - Alexsa "Crash" Parker, Snow Canyon (St. George, Utah), 5-9 JRUtah's Gatorade winner, Parker led the Warriors to a 28-4 record and the 3A state championship this past season. She recorded 466 kills, 315 digs, 40 blocks and 39 service aces. The two-time Region 9 MVP, Parker is also a three-time first team all-state honoree and the Spectrum & Daily News Most Valuable Player for the 2014 volleyball season.
OH - Alivia Fraase, Shanley (Fargo, N.D.), 6-0 SR Fraase led the Deacons to a 31-1 record and the 1A state title. The state's reigning Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year, Fraase slammed 341 kills with 257 digs, 45 assists, 44 service aces and 40 blocks. She has signed with North Dakota.
OH - Carley Cappello, Hammond Bishop Noll (Ind.), 5-8 SR

Cappello, a first team all-state pick and Times POY, rewrote the record books at Bishop Noll. With 650 kills (5.9) this season, she had 1,652 in three seasons. She also had more than 1,200 digs in her career with 408 (3.7) this season. More importantly, she guided Bishop Noll to back-to-back state title matches.
OH - Carrie Wentzel, Branson (Ross, Calif.), 6-0 JRWentzel enjoyed a breakout year — hitting .338 for a team-high 509 kills, good for over four per set and at least eight in 38 of 42 games as Branson won a D-V silver medal.
OH - Alex Ratzlaff, Hillsboro (Kan.), 5-10 JRRatzlaff averaged 6.8 kills (669), 1.5 aces (143), 4.8 digs (472) and had only 23 service errors in 572 receptions as the Trojans finished 39-5 and 3A state runners-up.
OH - Lauren Anderson, Deer Creek-Mackinaw (Mackinaw, Ill.), 5-10 SRThe Lipscomb recruit averaged an area-leading 5.2 kills and 4.6 digs and had 146 aces for the 36-3 2A state champions. She is a three-time Journal-Star POY.
OH - Kylie Scruggs, Goodpasture Christian (Madison, Tenn.), 5-11 SRScruggs averaged 4.2 kills, 5.2 digs and had 87 aces in leading Goodpasture Christian to its third-straight title.
MH - Jenna Huffman, McComb (Ohio), 6-2 JRHuffman, the District 8 Player of the Year, led the Panthers at the net with 491 kills and a .469 kill percentage. She also added 111 blocks with 200 digs and 61 aces. The Panthers won their first 29 matches before losing in the title match.
S - Mason Rooney, Westminster (Atlanta), 6-2 SRRooney led Westminster to three consecutive Georgia AA state championship matches and earned Georgia AA All-Area and All-State first-team honors three times. Registering 4.4 assists per set with 114 aces, 2.8 digs per set and 2.9 kills, Rooney was tabbed the Georgia AA Player of the Year as a junior and senior. She received Under Armour All-American third-team accolades in 2014.
S - Tara Atkins, Lindsay (Texas), 5-6 SRAtkins finished with 1,362 (9.9 average) assists this season, while totaling 204 digs to go with 14 solo blocks and 62 kills as the Knights finished 41-5.
S - Loryn Huffman, McComb (Ohio), 5-8 SOHuffman teamed with her All-American sister (Jenna) to lead the Panthers to the state final and a 29-1 record as she set the state record for assists in a season with 1,110. She has also added 1,107 serve receptions and 243 digs.
MB - Kirstie Hillyer, Bayfield (Colo.), 6-6 SRHillyer, who was named a 2014-15 Under Armour Honorable Mention All-American, hit 65.3 with 377 kills (4.5) and blocked 102 shots (1.2) as Bayfield reached the state semifinals. She earned four IML first-team selections (2011-14) and two all-state honors (2013-14). She has signed with Colorado State.
MB - Brooklyn Goodsel, Corry (Pa.), 6-2 SR

Goodsel, who was named the Erie Times POY, was all-state and Under Armour First-Team All-American. Goodsel led Corry to the state quarterfinals when she averaged 4.9 kills, 2.4 digs and committed just 27 service errors in 118 sets. She also had 80 blocks and 60 aces. She has signed with Ball State.
MB - Kassidy Lommori, Yerington (Nev.), 5-11 JRNamed Nevada 3A Player of the Year, Lommori led the team in kills with 502 (4.8), as well as blocks with 74 and digs with 275. The Lions won the state 3A title and finished the year 36-2.
MB - Leah Roberson, Swink (Colo.), 6-0 SRRoberson was the Lions' top hitter with 357 kills (4.8) as the team went 26-1. She also led Swink in blocks with 149 (2.0). Roberson had 257 digs (3.5) and recorded 53 aces.
A-A - Taryn White, Mt. Edgecumbe (Sitka, Alaska), 5-11 SRWhite, who averaged 6.2 kills (404), 1.9 digs and 3.5 assists per set, also received All-American honors from the AVCA. She led the Braves to the 3A state title and a 21-1 record.
A-A - Montana Swanson, Bishop England (Charleston, S.C.), 5-5 JRSwanson was named state 2A POY after leading Bishop England to its 15th-straight title and national record 25th overall.
