Baseball Recap: Sierra Lutheran Comes Up Short

Sierra Lutheran extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 7-18-1 in the process. They lost 11-1 to the Yerington Lions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 14-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Sierra Lutheran saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shaun Castro, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Yerington, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 23-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.

On Yerington's side, Toby Juarez spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. Juarez has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Valor Angle was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Brent Brinkley, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI.

While Sierra Lutheran had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
