Baseball Recap: Cardinal Mooney Victorious

It's playoff time, and Cardinal Mooney had no trouble coming through when it counted. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes 5-3. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Hurricanes on Monday, they had to take a 4-2 defeat.

Colton Hyde spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cardinal Mooney saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Geaglone, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Geaglone has posted since back in March.

Cardinal Mooney has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, they now have a losing record of 14-15.

Cardinal Mooney will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Hurricanes: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
