Volleyball Game Preview: Independence Blue Devils vs. Strongsville Mustangs

The Independence Blue Devils will square off against the Strongsville Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Strongsville took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Independence, who comes in off a win.

On Thursday, Independence got the win against Villa Angela-St. Joseph by a conclusive 3-0.

Anderson Sears was a one-man wrecking crew as he had 11 digs and six aces. He has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last 30 times he's played. Ryan Mack also deserves some recognition as he served his first aces of the season.

They weren't the only good servers: Independence was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 16 aces. That's the most aces they've posted in their last eight contests.

Meanwhile, Strongsville lost 3-0 to Medina on Thursday.

The final score came out to 25-20, 25-15, 25-15.

Strongsville's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Independence, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's match: Independence has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 10.3 aces per game. However, it's not like Strongsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Independence was able to grind out a solid victory over Strongsville in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, winning 3-1. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
