Preview: Waterloo Pirates vs. Lakeside Lutheran Warriors
Waterloo is 0-5 against Lakeside Lutheran since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Waterloo Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Lakeside Lutheran Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Waterloo has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 476 points over their last seven matches.
Waterloo suffered their biggest loss since November 28, 2023 on Thursday. They were outmatched by Belleville at home and fell 103-72. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Saturday (57), Waterloo still had to take the loss.
Meanwhile, after a string of 11 wins, Lakeside Lutheran's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 69-56 to Lake Mills. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Lakeside Lutheran has scored all season.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kaycee Guzman, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kooper Mlsna, who scored 16 points.
Waterloo has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Lakeside Lutheran, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-1.
Waterloo was dealt a bruising 76-43 loss at the hands of Lakeside Lutheran in their previous matchup back in December of 2021. Thankfully for Waterloo, Levi Birkholz (who scored 29 points along with seven rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
