Softball Recap: Lewisburg Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Hernando

Lewisburg faced Hernando in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Patriots came up short against the Tigers, falling 8-0. The match marked the first time this year in which the Patriots were not able to get on the board.

Lewisburg has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-12 record this season. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 18-2 DeSoto Central (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 82.4% over those games). As for Hernando, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 25-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Lewisburg is set to face off against their familiar foe Oxford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hernando will take on rival DeSoto Central at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 1.9, the Jaguars 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
