Baseball Game Preview: East Hamilton Hurricanes vs. Whitwell Tigers

The East Hamilton Hurricanes will square off against the Whitwell Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

East Hamilton blew Marion County out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Marion County got their revenge. East Hamilton fell just short of Marion County by a score of 3-1. The loss was the Hurricanes' first of the season.

East Hamilton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Huskey, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Whitwell never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on Grundy County with a sharp 10-0 victory. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Jacob McCurry made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Michael Kilgore and Brayden Riley did most of the damage at the plate: Kilgore went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Riley scored a run while going 1-for-4. Another player making a difference was Garrett Miller, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Whitwell pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for East Hamilton, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

East Hamilton took their victory against Whitwell in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0. Will East Hamilton repeat their success, or does Whitwell have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
