Preview: American Heritage Stallions vs. North Broward Prep Eagles
American Heritage is 0-10 against North Broward Prep since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The American Heritage Stallions will face off against the North Broward Prep Eagles at TBD. American Heritage knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully North Broward Prep likes a good challenge.
With a playoff game on the line, American Heritage rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They snuck past the Cougars with a 58-53 victory. Given American Heritage's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Somerset Academy - Canyons is ranked 464th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
American Heritage's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brendan Gerard led the charge by scoring 14 points. Xander Gerard was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
In what's become a running theme this season, North Broward Prep gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 103-26 victory over Dreyfoos School of the Arts. North Broward Prep's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
American Heritage's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for North Broward Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.
American Heritage came up short against North Broward Prep in their previous matchup back in January, falling 37-30. Can American Heritage avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
