Softball Preview: Monterey Trail Mustangs vs. Sheldon Huskies
Monterey Trail is 0-10 against Sheldon since March of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Huskies at 4:00 p.m. Monterey Trail will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Monterey Trail fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Franklin on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 8-7.
Aniyah Whipper made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliyah Ewing, who went 1-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Sheldon waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Thundering Herd a 5-0 shutout.
Kwinci Brown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Brown was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Brown wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Micah Kennedy, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Sheldon's win bumped their record up to 14-5-1. As for Monterey Trail, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
