Baseball Game Preview: Alameda Hornets vs. Encinal Jets

For the second straight game, Alameda will face off against Encinal. The Hornets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Alameda is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Alameda's offense. They fell 5-0 to Encinal on Wednesday.

For Encinal's part, the result came thanks to Kyle Cooke's shutout, as he gave up just six hits and racked up eight Ks. Cooke has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Encinal let Evan Furuichi and Hunter Willett run wild. Furuichi got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, while Willett went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Matan Antebi, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Encinal was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in four consecutive games.

Encinal is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Alameda, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
