Preview: Los Fresnos Falcons vs. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears
Two dominant signal callers in Robert Pineda and Jaime Lopez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Los Fresnos Falcons will square off against the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Los Fresnos' game on Friday was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell to Harlingen 21-17. Los Fresnos has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Los Fresnos' defeat came about despite a quality game from Gael Palestina, who rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Palestina's longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards.
Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.5 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They blew past Edinburg 37-13. Considering Pharr-San Juan-Alamo has won six matches by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Jorge Alanis, who rushed for 170 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Alanis has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played. Lopez was another key contributor, throwing for 232 yards and two touchdowns.
Los Fresnos has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, they have yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 7-3 record.
Los Fresnos barely slipped by Pharr-San Juan-Alamo when the teams last played back in September, winning 23-22. The rematch might be a little tougher for Los Fresnos since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
