Basketball Recap: Lakeland Falls Despite Big Games from Zoey Bowman and Mckenzie Carlson

After flying high against South Bend Career Academy on Monday, Lakeland came back down to earth. The Lakers lost 53-28 to the Fairfield Falcons on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Lakers in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost seven in a row.

Lakeland's loss came despite strong showings from McKenzie Carlson and Zoey Bowman. Carlson posted nine points, while Bowman dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards. The Lakers are 2-1 when Bowman posts eight or more rebounds, but 1-3 otherwise. Carmen Rettig also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Lakeland now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Fairfield, they pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakeland won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Bethany Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Fairfield, they will be home for the holidays to greet Fremont at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
