Baseball Recap: Sayre Takes a Loss

Sayre was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 16th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against the Canton Warriors, falling 13-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-7 back in March.

Karter Green was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Riley McGaughey made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Sayre's defeat dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Canton, their win bumped their record up to 3-7.

Looking ahead, Sayre will look to defend their home field on Friday against Athens at 4:30 p.m. As for Canton, they will head out to challenge Cowanesque Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season.
