Baseball Recap: Weedsport Gets the Win

Weedsport won the last time they faced Onondaga and things went their way on Monday too. The Wolverines walked away with an 8-3 win over the Tigers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolverines.

Nico Giacolone made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Weedsport's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Giacolone was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Brandon Thomas and Ryan Mickle did most of the damage at the plate: Thomas went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Mickle went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Thomas has become a key player for Weedsport: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kameron Buchanan, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The victory got Weedsport back to even at 3-3. As for Onondaga, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Weedsport will face off against Pulaski at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Onondaga, they will challenge Fabius Pompey at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
