Softball Recap: Klein Forest Takes a Loss

Klein Forest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 13-11 heartbreaker at the hands of the Heights Bulldogs. Even if the Eagles couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Danyelle Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and ten unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Ryleigh Culberson and Elecia Johnson did some serious damage despite the final result: Culberson scored five runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Johnson scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Lourdes Solano, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Even though they lost, Klein Forest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Klein Forest's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Heights, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-5.

Looking ahead, Klein Forest will be playing in front of their home fans against Magnolia at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Klein Forest has given up an average of 11.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Heights, they will challenge Fulshear at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
