Basketball Recap: Effingham County Comes Up Short

Effingham County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They fell 53-45 to the Statesboro Blue Devils. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rebels this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 46-34 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Effingham County still got an impressive performance from Kyjana Jordan, who posted 26 points. The game was Jordan's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Nakera M Hawkins was another key player, putting up six points and 12 boards.

Statesboro was led to victory by Gerziya Haggray and Kennedy Myers. Haggray dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds, while Myers dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 boards. Myers is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lindsay Johnson, who put up four points and 15 boards.

Effingham County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Statesboro, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-8.

Effingham County has already played their next matchup, a 55-35 loss against Evans on the 14th. As for Statesboro, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-34 defeat against Bradwell Institute on the 14th.
