Softball Recap: Eustis Takes Down Mount Dora in a Playoff Battle

Eustis had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Mount Dora Hurricanes a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Panthers have won ten contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Carson Roden tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emmy Luke, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Brooklyn Powhida was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Eustis is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Mount Dora, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.

Eustis will face off against The Villages Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Buffalo's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Mount Dora does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
