Basketball Recap: Gowanda Triumphs

On Tuesday, the Gowanda Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 61-58 win over the Cleveland Hill Golden Eagles.

Cleveland Hill's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Javier Nelson, who went 9 of 20 en route to 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Rhooms-Westbrooks, who posted 12 points along with seven boards and five assists.

Gowanda's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Cleveland Hill, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gowanda will host Griffith Institute at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cleveland Hill, they will welcome Holland at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
