Baseball Recap: University Lab Comes Up Short

University Lab entered their match against Berwick on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The University Lab Cubs fell 6-3 to the Berwick Panthers. The Cubs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2019.

Grant Sunstrom was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, Lane Mixon made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jake McCann, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

This is the second loss in a row for University Lab and nudges their season record down to 8-5. As for Berwick, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. University Lab will be taking part in a tournament against Lutheran South Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Berwick, they will be playing at home against Riverdale at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
