Basketball Recap: Brighton Comes Up Short

On Friday, the Brighton Cardinals came up short against the Jackson Christian Eagles and fell 54-43. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Eagles are ranked 26th).

Despite the loss, Brighton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Isaiah Standard went 6 of 12 on his way to 14 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for Standard. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden McIntyre, who posted nine points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Brighton was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Brighton's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Jackson Christian, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Brighton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 71-51 win against Northpoint Christian on the 9th. As for Jackson Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-47 victory against Union City on the 10th.
