Mayfair is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Mount Miguel is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Mayfair Monsoons will take on the Mount Miguel Matadors at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mayfair knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Mount Miguel likes a good challenge.
Mayfair had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They skirted past El Dorado 31-28. 31 seems to be a good number for Mayfair as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Meanwhile, Mount Miguel stacked a 12th blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Chula Vista 35-14. Mount Miguel's win was all the more impressive since Chula Vista was averaging only 15.92 points allowed on the season.
Mount Miguel's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Barton, who threw for 214 yards and five touchdowns. Jeremiah Castillo was another key contributor, picking up 88 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Mayfair is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Mount Miguel, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.
