Basketball Recap: Washburn Comes Up Short

Washburn played a tough match on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the University School Buccaneers, falling 66-38. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Buccaneers recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Despite the defeat, Washburn had strong showings from Justin Bailey, who posted eight points and seven boards, and Dillon Mullins, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 11 points. Those seven boards gave Bailey a new career-high.

Washburn now has a losing record at 3-4. As for University School, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

Washburn will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Oak Hall at 2:30 p.m. on December 27th. After both having extra time off, University School and Cherokee will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 6:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
