Baseball Recap: Hancock County Comes Up Short

Hancock County had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-20 to make it five. They lost 16-1 to the Owensboro Catholic Aces. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Aces this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 back in April.

Hancock County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Mucker, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

As for Owensboro Catholic, their record now sits at 18-13. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Owensboro Catholic's side, Barrett Evans made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Evans has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Brady Atwell was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Parker Heistand, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI.

Coming up, Hancock County will square off against McLean County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. Owensboro Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
