Baseball Recap: Sault Area Blue Devils vs. Gaylord Blue Devils
Sault Area had lost eight straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-8 to make it nine. They lost 9-2 to Gaylord. Sault Area was not able to make up for their loss to Gaylord from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
As for Gaylord, their win bumped their record up to 4-2. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Gaylord's part, Brady Shepherd was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Shepherd has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaac Collins, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base. Finley Miller also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Looking ahead, Sault Area will square off against Petoskey at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Gaylord, they will challenge Traverse City Central at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
