Baseball Game Preview: Catholic Central Crusaders vs. Madonna Blue Dons

The Catholic Central Crusaders will head out to challenge the Madonna Blue Dons at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Things were looking good for Catholic Central after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Oak Glen by a score of 7-6.

Matthew Jones made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Michael DiCarlo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Madonna was able to grind out a solid win over Monroe Central on Thursday, taking the game 6-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blue Dons.

Reed Wilharm spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mathew Geer, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was David Connors, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Madonna's victory bumped their record up to 20-4. As for Catholic Central, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-9.

Catholic Central suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Madonna in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Crusaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
