Baseball Recap: Northwest Comes Up Short

Northwest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against the Oakville Tigers, falling 7-1. The Lions were not able to make up for their loss to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Northwest got a good showing from Gio Cignetti, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Cignetti has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Northwest saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Hawkins, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Northwest's defeat dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Oakville, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northwest will welcome Ladue Horton Watkins at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rams will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight. As for Oakville, they will be playing at home against Kirkwood at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
