Given Spanish Springs' advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Damonte Ranch is ranked 52nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Spanish Springs' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Layni Noonkester, who scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Reese Wakefield was another key contributor, scoring 10 points.
Damonte Ranch's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Quinn Garrett, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Mya Ghisletta who scored 10 points along with 3 steals.
Spanish Springs' win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Damonte Ranch, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Spanish Springs will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Faith Lutheran at 9:00 p.m. Faith Lutheran has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Damonte Ranch, they will head out on the road to face off against Cardinal Newman at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
