Northeastern Buckeye recap Oct. 23, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to West Branch, who took down 69th ranked Marlington, 35-14.

The Warriors moved up to 176 from 210 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Northeastern Buckeye. West Branch climbed the ranks as a result of topping the Dukes 35-14.

Minerva's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Josey Riley threw for 234 and two touchdowns and Corey Schaffner had 116 yards receiving. On the ground Dalton Hartshorn chipped in 97 yards. Cody Parrish helped Minerva's passing attack out by catching five balls for 110 yards.

Canton South's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Wildcats feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Josh Lyon has thrown for 1656 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while Noah Mallen has 58 catches for 939 yards. Deonte Settles leads the league in rushing with 787 yards.

Mallen of the Canton South's is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 61 receiving yards in this week's game against Louisville to get there.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Alliance takes on Marlington. As it stands, the Aviators are in seventh, while Ed Miley's team is in first.

Alliance made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,291 from 6,919. The improvement was the result of 48-26 victory over the Lions last week.
