Softball Recap: Mt. Zion Sets Scoring Season-High Against Decatur Eisenhower

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mt. Zion). They blew past the Decatur Eisenhower Panthers 19-0 on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Nikki Ellegood made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last seven matchups.

In other batting news, Ella Fink was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Chloe Williams also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Mt. Zion hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in seven consecutive contests.

Mt. Zion is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Decatur Eisenhower, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-13.

Coming up, Mt. Zion will square off against Argenta-Oreana at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Decatur Eisenhower, they will challenge Cerro Gordo/Bement at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
