Baseball Game Preview: Newberry Panthers vs. Blessed Trinity Titans

The Newberry Panthers will square off against the Blessed Trinity Titans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Newberry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Newberry got the win against P.K. Yonge by a conclusive 9-3. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Blue Wave: they've now won four in a row.

Desmond Taylor made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Newberry let Tristan Woodrome and Tavis Honeycutt run wild. Woodrome scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Honeycutt went 2-for-3 with five RBI and one run. Woodrome has become a key player for Newberry: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brody Joyner, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Blessed Trinity and IMG Academy (ranked 15th and second in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile contest on Wednesday. The Titans fell just short of the Ascenders by a score of 1-0. The Titans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Blessed Trinity's defeat dropped their record down to 22-4. As for Newberry, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7.
