Baseball Recap: Sterling Heights Stallions vs. New Haven Rockets

Sterling Heights had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-9 to make it ten. They lost 17-0 to the New Haven Rockets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rockets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-2 back in April.

As for New Haven, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.

For New Haven's part, Connor Abuan and Kaden Gilbert were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Abuan pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Gilbert tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Abuan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. In other batting news, New Haven got a massive performance out of Will Bosco, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Bosco a new career-high. Angelo Licari also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sterling Heights will head out to square off against Clawson at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for New Haven, they will venture away from home to take on Mott at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
